Check 1 and 2: age and license
Age and license rules are set by each company, so read them first.
The Aruba Tourism Authority says age requirements vary by company and that you generally need to be at least 21. It also says an international driving permit, or any valid license held for two full years, is usually required (aruba.com, Car Rentals, checked 20 Sep 2026).

Check 3: the deposit
The deposit is the money held on your card until you return the car.
The Aruba Tourism Authority notes that a deposit of about US $500, or a credit card pre-authorization, is typical (aruba.com, Car Rentals, checked 20 Sep 2026). Ask three things: the amount, whether it must be a credit card, and how long the release takes after you return the car.

A sedan covers almost every road you will drive. A 4x4 is for a few places.
Most visitors stay on paved roads: the hotel strip, Oranjestad, Eagle Beach and San Nicolas. For those, a compact or mid-size sedan such as the Hyundai Elantra is enough.
